Winter semester of my freshmen year brought me a chance of working with Arduino's, Raspberry-pies and numerous other hardware sensors.

I did 3 different projects one in each of the following domain:

  • Furniture

  • Home Appliance

  • Wearable Technology

Though the implementation was restricted to a single iteration, the thought process of the team was the major step up during the work period.

Smart Repository

The first project was a automated locking repository which can be controlled from one's mobile device. The prototype repositories used a non-production grade locking mechanism using a step-motor. The system also tried to integrate the needs of elderly and visually impaired people by keeping LED signals for the state of repository and by having a minimalist design for the mobile app.

Smart Table Top

The second project was a table (indeed!). It was prototype of a customizable table. User could customize the shape as well as the height of the table. The shape of table could be changed to one of the following three according to the requirement of the user.

Smart Biker's Attire

The last project concerned with the wearable for bikers. The 3-set attire comprised of a helmet, a pair of gloves and a jacket. Wearing this attire, the biker could be alerted about their back's position if it bends beyond the suggested limits. Another new feature tested using this attire was a new method of using indicators. Each of the globe had a button installed on a comfortable hand position. The helmet had LED lights installed on either of the left and right side. The user can easily press the left or right button on the corresponding glove to indicate the user's future direction which would be reflected on the LEDs on the helmet.

4 months and 3 projects taught me a lot about

  • How to approach a problem.

  • How to judge the feasibility of a solution.

  • How to present a solution.
